Nile Southern first proposed a collection of his father’s letters in 1989, but Terry, at sixty-eight, “was not particularly interested in resurrections of his work, or his life,” Nile recently wrote. Today, we are more than a decade into the revival Nile had originally envisioned under the code name “Resurrection . . . NOW!” A thinly sketched biography, Lee Hill’s A Grand Guy: The Art and Life of Terry Southern, arrived in 2001, followed by a collection of Southern’s miscellany, Now Dig This: The Unspeakable Writings of Terry Southern, in 2002. In 2004, Nile published his own book, The Candy Men, about the controversial publication and reception of Southern’s 1958 erotic novel Candy, and Gerber published a memoir of her partner in 2009, Trippin’ with Terry Southern: What I Think I Remember. In late 2015, the small publishing house ANTIBOOKCLUB released what might amount to the last piece of the puzzle, Yours in Haste and Adoration: Selected Letters of Terry Southern.

From the still-interesting-after-all-these-years Joho the Blog:

Sitterwerk Art Library in St. Gallen, Switzerland, has 25,000 items on its shelves in no particular order.... That the shelves have no persistent order doesn’t mean they have no order. Rather, works are reshelved by users in the clusters the users have created for their research. All the items have RFID tags in them, and the shelves are automatically scanned so that the library can always tell users where items are located.

As a result, if you look up a particular item, you will see it surrounded by works that some other user thought were related to it in some way. This creates a richer browsing experience because it is shaped and reshaped by how its community of users sees the items’ inter-relationships.

The library has now installed Werkbank, which is a plain old table where you can spread out a pile of books and do your research. But, unlike truly plain old tables, this one combines RFID sensors and cameras with recognition software so it knows which works you’ve put on the table and how you’ve organized them. Werkbench notes those associations, and stores them, creating a rich network of related works.

It also lets the individual save a research set, and even compile a booklet documenting those items, with notes. It can be printed on the spot and taken home … or put into the shelves as a user-generated lib guide.

bought a bunch of american apparel t-shirts via some wholesale site. paid $8 instead of retail $18. they were snug to begin with but after a couple of washes the one ive worn was suddenly midriff bearing and not one worth bearing. i dont doubt the laundromat uses too much heat in washer and dryer as this is not my first go round with shrinkage but i chalk that up to the cost of not doing it myself. in actuality, i would ruin more clothes than they do for sure. so i looked it up. i guess some shrinkage is inevitable for these shirts but i was surprised when i measured that it was at least three inches off the bottom compared to an unworn, unwashed one. only one option, diet & exercise size up.

i may not be able to complain about the electricity soon. some chinese electricians are stalking the hallways and when i inquired we were able to come to an agreement in broken english that "new line" was in the offing.  i just hope it doesnt come with a rent hike. unfortunately ill have no one to blame but myself. well, thats not true. its certainly the cajoling of the landlord across the street thats making it happen and he is responding to my eyerolling comments about the paucity of power, but i explicitly said we were fine with it if it meant the rent stayed as is. so ill be pissed at him for meddling and at myself for not keeping my big mouth shut. it probably wont happen but i wont be shocked if it does.

had some leaking issues w/my radiatiors when i tried to modulate the heat by half closing the valve. i guess barring some other systemic solution that would mitigate the leaking its either all the way open for sauna-level temps or completely off. i was fine with one radiator in the front off, but the other half of my apartment remained uncomfortably hot so i decided to see what it would be like with that shut off as well. i am not without heat altogether. there are at least four three inch pipes running floor to ceiling emanating heat plus whatever is rising from downstairs. havent been cold at all even with it being 4 degrees outside at the moment. those upgraded doublepane windows from like six years ago make all the difference. thanks whatshername for threatening to sue the landlord. i forgot her name. wait, it was britt. thanks britt!

Ages ago I bought an emeco navy chair anodized in dark grey. I got just the one to see how I liked it before ordering more. Fifteen years later, I want more. The google can't find any suppliers of the 1006 in colors. Any ideas from resident mid-century fans? I'm aware of the 111, which is plastic, and comes in colors, but I've never seen one in person.
